Lucienne F. 3 weeks agoI wish I didn't have to shop here so often. It's awful; they recently added bars and one of those one way gate things, which make you feel imprisoned in the store. One of the fire exits is blocked half the time, which is incredibly dangerous. Often they're half out of everything, and what they do have is expensive. They've locked toothpaste, ice cream, and seafood behind locked glass doors, and one time the buttons weren't even there to get them. Also, I concur with people saying that the listed hours don't match how the store is run; they act like closing time is 12:50, when their hours elsewhere don't reflect that. Oh, and the random railing they added? Yeah, it makes it harder to navigate the store, and basically doesn't do anything except provide more advertising space... oh, and don't even get me started on that! Literally every aisle is cramped, and there's barely enough room for two people to pass each other, and if an aisle isn't strangulated to the point of congestion, they add little pillar things with random snacks you're not looking for. There's no baskets, so you either have to carry everything by hand or use way oversized carts which are doomed to collide with everything in their path, and even then, the carts are rarely available because of the aforementioned one way gate being placed IN FRONT OF the carts. They also literally never have person-to-person checkout open. Self checkout nearly accuses you of stealing if you use the portable scanner, and a quarter of the self-checkouts are out of order, especially during busy hours. They barely have enough staff to keep that running, meaning that if you have any issue with the self-check or locked doors at all, it takes twice as long as it needs to because god forbid half of the corporate budget be spent on staffing instead of hostile anti-shoplifting architecture that doesn't even prevent shoplifting and just makes the building hazardous in the event of an emergency and inaccessible to the disabled. Awful store. Tired of their monopoly on groceries nearby.
Henry Reiwang 8 months agoWell stocked and consistent quality of grocery. You can find almost anything you need to make weekly purchase. The price is affordable for student; do use safeway membership and register your number for it, it would make a huge different. The only downside is the enviroment before entering the store. Glass shards, litters, and seasonal urine smell. Prep some paper dollar if you intend to be generous and spend outside of your student budget. Get ready to be witness ufc outbreak once in every few months [after 11pm]. Sceurity exist, yes. Are they paid to maintain a "safe" way? I'm not sure. Good mascot though. Be careful, and stay safe (for the student).
Adam Hescock 2 months agoThe corporate strategy of getting customers to do all the work ourselves is in full effect at this store. They only bothered to install 3 actual check stands and still don't staff any of them, ever. You can even walk by and notice stacks of random items like the stands themselves are merely storage at this point. The only place you can find a human to check out your purchase is in their alcohol fort. The higher-ups obviously know that when there are ZERO eyes on customers who are left to do the work of a company that tries to harvest absolutely as much money as they can from people buying FOOD TO LIVE - those people will eventually see said company as a predatory entity instead of simply a place for locals to buy food for their families. But Safeway places but one human worker there to guard their alcohol, and one to handle the countless droves of customers who are otherwise forced through the cattle line at the self-checkout corral, and that is all. The few staff members I've engaged with have been helpful enough, but mostly they seem drained and sometimes even dead-eyed. The entrance to this store is always surrounded by any number of hazardous types of people on a regular basis. They're not at all unfamiliar with actual shootings in front of the store either. I've been in this area for less than a month and already walked around police tape there twice. Basically, this particular Safeway location is the epitome of why this corporation has joined the list of worst ones to support overall, alongside Kroger/Fred Meyer/QFC, Walmart, and Target. Just absolute greed as the blueprint, with no attention to anything resembling real service, or even basic care and safety for their crew or customers. This location also just has a terrible layout and selection and half of the coolers and shelves are locked up and you have to hunt for staff to ASK them to unlock basic items for you to then go check out yourself. This place is rampant, end-stage capitalism incarnate and you should really just go support places like Winco instead, always.
Christine Zhao 3 years agoWell stocked and beautiful! The renovations have done this Safeway justice, never have I been so impressed with a Safeway in my life. Truly a wonder to watch the opening of a long awaited full grocery store (Target doesn't count). I've often wished for a grocery store like this in UDistrict. The parking garage is convenient though a bit tight. I will be coming back regularly, cannot say enough good things about this Safeway. The layout of the store is a bit inconvenient but has everything you need while being compact and easy to maneuver. Can't wait to watch this store flourish.
Rachel Horne a month agoEverything is locked up and it takes forevery to get a store clerk to open it. The line is long for self check out. The only non-self check out is the liquor area, which is also long. The doors by the deli are always locked, whether entering or exiting (why have a door there at all?). Its like shopping at Fort Knox, except without the actual security and only security theatre (why have security guards AND locks on every thing? Do the security guards not do their job well?) They never clean up the front door area so the entrance smells. The inconvenience of shopping at this Safeway makes me want to steal from them out of spite. Just go back to pre-Piggly Wiggly days and have someone shop for you since this store makes you get a clerk to open a lock for everything anyways.
