I first started spending time in Philadelphia in 2017 during a long-distance relationship with my now-wife. I was living in Soho and very much immersed in the New York lifestyle. New York will always be a singular, extraordinary place to me, but Rittenhouse Market has come to represent my transition into Philly and my growing appreciation for what makes this city special. After getting married in 2021, I moved here full-time. Leaving New York was bittersweet, and apartment hunting during COVID was emotional. I'd never imagined living anywhere else. But discovering Rittenhouse Market immediately pulled me toward this neighborhood and helped it feel like home. Today, it's a staple of my daily life. The market is organic, well cared for, and thoughtfully run by people who understand their community. Prices are fair, the selection is practical yet discerning, and nothing feels overly precious or performative. The staff is consistently friendly and knowledgeable, with almost no turnover, which gives the place a rare sense of continuity. Countless small touches reflect its role as a neighborhood institution: stamps, cards, Christmas trees, firewood, those random essentials you don't realize you need until you do. It's a modern corner market that still remembers its roots. My previous local markets were Gourmet Garage, Citarella, and Gristedes. Rittenhouse Market feels like the best elements of all three: the charm and curation, the organic sensibility, the everyday practicality, without the usual tradeoffs. It's a market rather than a full-scale grocery, but the breadth of offerings is impressive. (Their South Street location, South Square Market, is even larger.) The store functions as a kind of mini town square for neighborhood residents, and the people watching is great. The staff and regulars have this effortlessly cool, authentic, and unpretentious vibe that feels very Philly. While I love gourmet spots like Di Bruno Bros, which serve a different purpose, Rittenhouse Market is where daily life actually happens. They complement each other perfectly. For me, this place mirrors the experience of settling into Philadelphia, becoming a family person, and finding a rhythm that balances convenience with character. It's not engineered for trends or social media, just quietly confident in what it is. That combination, progressive and global yet grounded and unpretentious, is exactly what I've come to love about Philly. Rittenhouse Market embodies that spirit, and I'll remain a loyal customer as long as I live nearby. Thank you!

More than a thousand times this staff saved my life by stocking some of my favorite products. Staff is friendly, helpful and comforting. Inexpensive options exist in this "high class" store location like "Crav'n" products (crackers and VERY good thin mint cookies) . Convenient to walk to and all-around good feel.

A man I didn’t know cornered me outside the store, never identified himself, and physically blocked my path. He accused me of not paying for my eggs, even though he could have easily verified with the cashier who had just checked me out. From the moment I entered, he was uncomfortably watching me closely. Afterward, I realized it was because he had already assumed I would steal before I even made a purchase. The entire experience was invasive, unprofessional, and deeply uncomfortable. I will not be returning.

I like this store, its convenient for the neighborhood and has a pretty good selection. I shop between here and Spruce Food Market depending on what I need, and when I dont have time to go all the way to Trader Joes. Has typical American staples but also has a pretty decent international selection, and large spice section. Produce selection is also pretty varied, I like that they stock various spicy peppers which I otherwise have trouble finding around here. I dont use it often but they also have a deli for meats/cheeses as well as some premade meals at the deli. Only critique is that they seem to stock too much produce for the amount of business they get, i.e. you can usually find a fresh pick for what you need, but also a lot (esp the greens) is often wilted and I wonder how much goes to waste. I would recommend they sign up for Too Good to Go. Maybe only other critique is the meat section can be hard to rely on if you need a specific cut of meat bc the selection seems to change a lot, but its fine if you can be flexible. Also this is niche but they have my now favorite brand of cottage cheese (Hoods) which I’ve never found anywhere else (I’m very picky with cottage cheese).

Staff is great and selection is good..Prices are higher but large markets but not as high as specialty markets in the area.
