I’ve never written a review for a grocery store before, but I feel compelled to share my experience here - especially because this is unfortunately my closest option. This Harris Teeter consistently feels understaffed in practice, even when there are many employees on the floor. Most appear idle or on their phones, while basic customer needs go unmet. Baskets are rarely available, which makes even a quick stop frustrating. The seafood counter is particularly disappointing: overpriced, poor-quality fish, and an overall lack of freshness. The bakery is another letdown - sourdough is almost never fresh and is often left partially open in the bag, causing it to harden prematurely. I’ve also repeatedly found items past their expiration dates, including staples like brown sugar and even bottled Diet Coke, which is concerning. To make matters worse, prices are consistently high - often higher than the same items at the Fresh Market across the street, which offers noticeably better quality and service. Shopping here is more frustrating than it should be. I genuinely wish this store would get it together, because with its location, it could be SO much better.

5 stars for the bakery and Billie Jo at this location! I ordered a birthday cake, but this particular cake kit was not in stock (and was in between cake kit ordering dates). We had a little more than a week to party day. Billie Jo made it her personal task to locate this cake kit within the city and bring it to the East Boulevard location to make the cake in time. It was indeed ready on time, totally correct, gorgeous and tasty! She and the bakery team are fabulous I am very grateful!

My partner purchased crabs from Harris Teeter (Store #61 on East Blvd) on March 29 around 5:04 PM. After bringing them straight home, I opened them and immediately noticed a strong odor—they were not fresh and not safe to eat. Because we were on the way to a Hornets game, we refrigerated them and returned the next day. The store manager, Joseph Abousaid, refused to issue a refund and stated the crabs were “fine before I left the store.” He also said “they’ve seen this type of thing before,” and I asked him was saying this because I’m black. He then questioned whether we left the crabs in the car due to the heat, but I clearly explained they were taken directly home because we were headed to the Hornets vs. Celtics game at 6. Instead of resolving the issue, the situation escalated, and he threatened to call security because I was upset he wouldn’t refund my money. I also noticed the seafood was not stored on ice, which raises concerns about freshness and handling. This experience was beyond disappointing and the seafood was clearly bad. The person working should have smelled even a slight stench when bagging them. I expected better customer service and accountability, especially when dealing with food safety. The manager, Joseph Abousaid, took no accountability at all and needs training!

This is my neighborhood grocery store. Its great and I absolutely love the people here. Especially a few of them have really become my favorite people!
