My family owned grocery stores in Detroit, what we used to call “party stores”so this kind of space feels especially nostalgic to me. Yesterday, I stopped in and introduced myself to Simon, the original owner’s son. The deli had already closed for the day, but we had a great conversation. He shared more about how they source locally, which really intrigued me and made me want to come back and experience it fully. I love the vintage decor and the throwback feel to old-time grocery stores. It also has a strong sense of community—it seems to be a bit of a local hangout, always busy and full of people. Old school charm and quality. The nostalgic atmosphere is alluring and the service is attentive and fun. My reuben sandwich was very tasty although a little small in portion. My only recommendation would be to increase the size and cost if necessary. It was cold so we did not utilize the outdoor seating where I would normally prefer. The indoor seating was very minimal and not particularly comfortable. This is the kind of place I hope continues to be a staple and normal part of the cities experience

This neighborhood spot sells wine, beer, other food items and makes sandwiches. I stopped by yesterday to pick up a “to-go” order and the line was out the door, but the sandwiches were well worth the wait. As a person of Italian heritage (my mother, 100% northern Italian) I have been on a two year search in Charlotte for the near-perfect Italian sandwich. When I visited Italy their fresh sandwiches were unbelievably tasty, and reasonably priced. The Common Market made an Italian sandwich that would have felt right at home on the Via Venuto or the Ponte Vecchio. Served on a crusty roll, cut on the european style diagonal, and filled with fresh deli meats (Mortadella, Salami) pesto, tomato, and smoked peppers was a combination that was out of this world. There are a number of Common Markets in the CLT area. I would recommend this spot to friends and family, even if you have to travel a bit to have what I consider Charlotte’s best sandwiches.

I mistakenly ordered from the breakfast menu at lunch time, and hadn’t noticed that my order was cancelled due to my mistake. When I arrived to pick up my food, they allowed me to pick any item from the menu and cover the cost… for a mistake that was my own. I picked the Vegbano and it was absolutely delicious!!! The atmosphere was nice and so were the people. I’ll definitely be back!!

I strongly dislike places that prompt you to tip but don't bring your food out, clean it up, or check in on you. Just pay your workers fairly dude and don't rely on customers. They throw your stuff on the counter by the window and you don't know when your specific order is ready for pick up (no buzzers or name calling). The food was delicious though and I like the concept of the bodega/brewery/diner mixed elements. There's board games to play and a nice outdoor patio/outdoor seating (both upstairs and downstairs). The loft is neat. Definitely Charlotte-y character.
