Zemin Hu a month agoThis is interesting place for both tourists and locals, specially at weekends. Parking could be challenging, if you're lucky you could find a street parking spot. There are stalls to sell flowers, fresh produce, spices, handcraft items, walking around can be a fun. There comes food and restaurants, ethnic cuisine shops. Coffee shops and bakery shops. We ate some Sicilian pizza and Paella, which were authentic and delicious. It's a really good place to relax and goof around with family or friends.
Elisa Ramon 2 months agoBeautiful market in the heart of Kansas City. The first time we visited there was not much going on, but we went back on a Saturday morning and found the farmers market and all the vendors and it was lovely. All around there are restaurants and shops so you can always find something. There is also a nice park next to the market, a great space for dogs. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.
Anne Lindsay 5 months agoAs a native Kansas Citian, this iconic area is a huge space with permanent stores and eateries surrounding the stall area. In the spring, summer and fall vendors sell food, crafts and more. Fresh produce, baked goods, plants, flowers and more are sold, mainly on Saturday mornings to throngs of visitors. This particular visit was in mid-December during a beautiful mild Sunday. This city market has a long history in Kansas City, and now also houses the Steamboat Arabia Museum, a space dedicated to a steamboat that was found in a field near the river by a farmer. It was excavated carefully and reassembled here. It was amazingly intact since being discovered in fertile soil. They found it full of cargo, including preserved food, sets of china, clothing and much, much more. The huge paddle wheel was in tact and now is mounted and churns water in the front windows.
Steph Montgomery 2 months agoCity Market was a fun stop while we were in KC. We went at noon on a Saturday and it was definitely crowded, but in a good way—lots of energy, buskers playing music, interesting people everywhere, and even "gnomes" walking around clipping seedlings in people's hair. Most places took credit cards, which made things easy. There were a few produce stands and plant vendors, plus all kinds of other booths (great tie-dye, gemstones, hot sauce, wagyu beef, and more). Plenty of places to eat, sit, and grab a drink. Carollo’s was the busiest place to eat, so we figured that was a good sign and hopped in line. They were cooking right out in the promenade, and it absolutely paid off—our cheesesteaks were great and the onion rings were honestly the best I’ve ever had. One small heads-up: someone did try to pickpocket my husband while we were there—joke’s on her, she would’ve ended up with a handful of used napkins—but it’s worth staying aware in a crowd like that. The free streetcar runs right from the library to City Market, which made getting there super easy. Overall, a lively and worthwhile stop.
Sharon H. 5 months agoIt’s a shopping and restaurant combined area. 2 hour Free parking. The steamboat museum is attached to the main hall. Maybe it was winter and around the holiday time so not many people at the Market. Many different cuisine and fresh grocery stores. All are small and have limited seatings. We visited a comic store, fashion store, candy store etc. It’s a cool spot to stop by. People are nice.
