Anne Kiely a year agoKowalskis is my go to for the special touches. The cheese selection is outstanding and the fish is always fresh. The flowers are gorgeous and tend to last a while. Great variety of produce, both organic and non organic. I love it when they have samples. They put together interesting and unique combinations and I often end up purchasing based on them. They have a Starbucks inside which is so convenient. It’s expensive but perfect for the high end additions and last minute needs. I’ve never been disappointed by a purchase.
Melanie L 2 months agoThis is my favourite grocery store, even though it may not be the cheapest. The product quality, bakery and exceptional staff make it worth coming here. The security, bakery staff, hot meal chefs and cashiers are what make this place so special. I love coming here on my lunch breaks and seeing friendly, familiar faces.
shivani mohabir 2 months agoIf I could give this store zero stars…I would. If you are a BIPOC I wouldn’t recommend this store AT ALL to ANYONE. My partner and I were excited to shop here as they seemed to have a great selection of healthy options to choose from. We started off strong and asked an employee where a product would be. They were really kind and walked us over to that product. They left and we continued shopping in that same area. Shortly after, the security guard walked by looking at my partners pockets and my own as if we were stealing. Not even one minute later that same security guard walked by again monitoring us again. As people of color, we are extremely aware of when we are being followed or monitored in a store by the staff as this isn’t the first time or first store this has happened. It’s also obvious when you are being racially profiled when none of the other White customers around us are being followed, monitored or looked at this way. We had more groceries on our shopping list but we decided to go somewhere else. The security guard followed us to the check out and gestured towards my partner to the lady who was in charge of self check out. After this, we checked out and left. All in all, this is embarrassing look for Kowalski’s. I will never support this store and will continue to share this experience with others. This was a horrible experience to go through. Things NEED to change as no one deserves to be treated like they are stealing or have their shopping monitored because they are a BIPOC. However, reading through other experiences this is not the first time this has happened. There are MULTIPLE reviews of experiences similar to this. Why hasn’t this issue been addressed? Is this what Kowalski’s stands for? If you’re looking for another option The Wedge on Lyndale has great options and has never followed us around.
L V a year agoDo not shop here for fruits/veggies, or any of their products which require you to pay by the pound. They have no scales to weigh any of it. If you only need a pound and you get to the register only to discover you have two pounds worth. You are forced to buy it. Or you tell them you won't buy it, and they have to throw it away (like items from their expensive salad, burrito, or soup bar). So by not having scales for weighing items, they are creating waste and wasting their money on these bars. They shouldn't have soup, salad, burrito, or any hot food that they force you to pay by the pound.
PrettyGirlKits 5 months agoThe store itself is beautiful, and I truly enjoy the products. However, my personal experience shopping here was extremely unwelcoming and uncomfortable. I strongly feel that employees racially profile people of color. While shopping with my daughter and pushing a stroller, I noticed an employee following me down nearly every aisle, closely watching my stroller as if they suspected me of stealing items like milk. At the same time, another woman who was not a person of color and also had a stroller was not followed or watched in the same way, which made me feel targeted. Additionally, the employees stationed at self-checkout stood very close, stared continuously, and hovered over me while I was checking out. This invaded my personal space and made an already uncomfortable situation even worse. I genuinely love the store and its products, but the behavior of some employees made the shopping experience stressful and unpleasant. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so all customers can feel welcomed, respected, and comfortable while shopping here.
