Rich Beezy 3 weeks agoI've been in there a few times but I have to say that I don't like to go to a store and I can tell that the staff is very prejudice and that's sad? Just because Im African American doesn't mean to follow me from when I enter the store and look at me crazy when I'm trying to purchase products!
Zooey Demi Maguire 2 months agoI live and work right next door to Harvest Market, so convenience is the only reason I’ve continued shopping here. I come in almost daily and have spent more money here than I should simply because it’s close. I also appreciate seeing Latino staff working there, as I’m Latino myself. But the way the man who appears to be the owner behaves makes the whole experience stressful. Today was the last straw. I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito from the deli, but the cook made it with sausage instead. I didn’t complain — mistakes happen. But when I went to pay, the owner watched me the entire time I was shopping, even though I’m literally a neighbor who shops there every day. When I got to the register, he didn’t just hover — he followed me right up to the counter and stood directly next to the cashier and next to me, listening in and inserting himself into the transaction. Then he started questioning me about my own burrito: “What’s in this? What did you order?” His tone wasn’t polite or professional. It felt accusatory, like he thought I was trying to cheat him over a breakfast burrito I didn’t even receive correctly. It was uncomfortable and completely unnecessary. I explained that I had ordered chorizo but got sausage instead, and that I was fine paying regardless. He then got visibly upset because the tag said $8.99 and insisted it was actually $10.99. Again, I said that was fine. Then he turned to the cashier and said, “If we make it for anyone, it’s $10.99. It’s always been that way. You can’t make a special for $8.99 — we order these in bulk.” The tone was condescending, like he was lecturing her and scolding me at the same time. Meanwhile, I’m thinking about how much money I’ve spent in that store — because you can’t get out of there for less than $30 most days. And the “deal” breakfast sandwiches they sell? They’re the old ones sitting out, sometimes overcooked and hard. At one point he even said he was going to “go talk to the cook because he messed up,” right there in front of me. I told him, “Listen, you shouldn’t be doing this in front of customers.” It was uncomfortable watching him get ready to reprimand his staff publicly over a simple mistake — especially when I had already said I didn’t mind and was willing to pay. I told him he was being disrespectful and that I shop there every day. His response was basically that it didn’t matter. That’s exactly the problem — he treats regular customers like strangers and treats his staff even worse. The store is already overpriced for what it is. This isn’t a specialty market; it’s a convenience store with convenience‑store prices marked even higher. On top of that, they charge an extra fee if your card purchase is under $10, and debit cards under $10 get automatically declined so you’re forced to pay the extra dollar. The deli can be good sometimes, but everything else can be bought for much less at Safeway. And honestly, the energy in the store when this man is working is miserable. I’ve seen him speak to people in ways that makes me uncomfortable and he will follow you around the store if your not white. Today is officially the last time I shop here. On principle, I’m not supporting a neighborhood store that doesn’t treat me like a neighbor. I’d rather walk to the next block over or just go to Safeway than spend another dollar in a place where I’m made to feel unwelcome.
R W 4 months agoAbsolutely love ❤️ this place! Their selection of chocolate covered treats is amazing! The fried cheese sticks are on hit! Do t forget to ask for the sauce!
Ella Archer 3 months agoHere’s a shorter, cleaned-up version with corrected spelling: Overall, the service was rude and disrespectful. I’m visiting from out of state and had no issues shopping, but checkout was frustrating. The cashier was dismissive about my time and commented on me being on the phone while my card wasn’t working. He said I was being rude, which felt unnecessary. When I called back to address it, he was unhelpful. I wouldn’t recommend coming here—others on Yelp have had similar experiences.
Dan Dascalescu 3 years agoPrices 30%+ higher than at Target in the same homeless-occupied neighborhood. Or even double, eg. for blueberries. One staple item to compare is a can of Monster White Ultra, 16 fl oz. It's $3.39 at Harvest Urban Market, and only $2.69 at Target. That's 26% more for nothing extra. It's not organic or fresher or anything. Speaking of organic, the store has surprisingly few healthy foods. Mostly convenience store stuff (sodas, chips). Really no reason to go here when there's Whole Foods a few minutes away, or Target, depending on what your budget and preferences are. Also, high risk of encountering homeless people inside. They may or may not be harmless.
