Jack Black 4 months agoLocating a quality grocery store is a priority, and the Safeway in Kapahulu consistently offers an exceptional shopping experience. Having visited this location several times, I have found the atmosphere to be remarkably welcoming and thoroughly impressive. The primary draw here is the superb poke counter, which features an excellent variety of fresh options. Complementing this is a great selection of hot food available by the pound or prepacked, alongside a good sushi selection. It is also worth noting that the prices are quite reasonable for Hawaii standards. The produce section is equally commendable, boasting an excellent choice of fruits that are always fresh. The environment is impeccable. The cleanliness of the store is top-tier, and the restrooms are kept very clean, which is a rare relief during a busy day. I suspect the staff must be fueled by the very poke they sell, given how efficiently they maintain the aisles. The staff is consistently helpful and professional, making every trip easy. I especially appreciate how the Safeway Member discounts make the final total feel like a victory. To conclude, if you are looking for fresh local flavors, this supermarket is a superb island destination.
Rachel Belle 3 weeks agoI ordered a cake for a 6/12 10:30 pickup 3 days ago. I received an email confirming my cake and the pick up time. I showed up at the store around 10:40 am to pick up my cake, and was told it had not even been made yet. The baker told me to “give her ten minutes” so she could make my cake. I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager, because I was genuinely confused as to why my cake hadn’t been made in time for pickup. Who I assume was the bakery manager came out, a middle aged man, I asked him how he was doing and he grunted something at me. I explained my situation and his only response was “Sometimes mistakes happen there’s not much we can do.” to which I responded “You could have called and let me know that there was a mistake and you needed more time, but now I am wasting my day waiting for something that was supposed to be ready almost 30 min ago” He was extremely rude and dismissive, did not apologize once for their mistake, and his solution was to offer me a 10$ discount on the cake, which I agreed to. I heard him say to the baker, “Just give her 10$ off.” and he walked back to the back again. The baker finished my cake and gave me the receipt, which showed only $5 off of the total original amount, instead of the 10$ the manager had just mentioned, so I said to the baker “Oh! He said $10!” And she replied “No, he said $5.” I am absolutely positive that these people were lying and gaslighting and I have no idea why. Anyways, she calls him back to the front, and he says “No, I only said $5” and I responded, “Are you serious? You said 10 dollars five minutes ago!” I ended up leaving the situation because it was obvious this manager or baker were not going to help me and they were going to lie about what we had agreed upon not even 5 minutes before. I searched out a store manager and met with (Janine? Gina? I’m so sorry, I could not hear her well) who IMMEDIATELY listened to me respectfully, rectified the situation, apologized, and treated me with so much kindness and understanding. She was perfect and everything I needed in that situation. So, to the mean bakery manager : You suck, and I ended up getting the cake for free because you suck so bad, so I hope the $5 squeeze was worth it to your obviously fragile local ego. Have fun making cakes I guess. To store manager, Gina / Janine / World’s Greatest Auntie: Thank you, so much. You are amazing at your job and I would have written off Hawaii Safeway today if not for your complete kindness and understanding. Thank you so much.
June Dillinger 2 months agoWhat a gift it is when a clerk remembers you by name, asks how your partner is doing, and even remembers who the ice cream lover is in the family. In that moment, you feel seen, not just as a customer, but as a person. Timaree brings back the feeling of the good ol’ days of customer service, when shopping wasn’t just a transaction. It was a moment of connection. She greets us like neighbors, remembers the little details, and makes each visit feel personal. For a few minutes, time slows down. We’re not just passing through the checkout line—we’re being welcomed, acknowledged, and cared for. Timaree is the clerk who, 10 out of 10 times, brings the most genuine kindness and customer service I’ve experienced at Safeway, and honestly, anywhere. You are fortunate to have her as a part of your team. We are blessed by her kind heart and excellent customer service.
Robert Dambrosio 9 months ago**Safeway Kapahulu ** A Must-Visit for Locals & Tourists! Safeway on Kapahulu Avenue is a fantastic shopping destination that truly serves the community. The store is spacious, always stocked with fresh produce, and offers a wide variety of services that make shopping convenient and enjoyable. They have an excellen: **Japanese sushi section** **hot food plate lunch area** **deli** **in-house bakery** with fresh bread, cakes, and pastries. The customer service here is outstanding—whether at the registers or in the aisles, there’s always someone available to assist and guide you to the right products. Beyond groceries, they offer practical amenities like a **Honolulu car registration kiosk** **Bank of Hawaii ATMs**. Plus, it’s heartwarming to see local organizations like, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and soccer teams hosting fundraisers right at the entrance, making every visit feel like a part of the community. Parking is plentiful, with **ample spots in front and a large rooftop lot with an elevator** that takes you directly into the store. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, Safeway Kapahulu is a great place to shop, and I highly recommend it! Thank you, Safeway! Robert
ricky pride 4 months agoAll Safeway deli/hot food are not the same!! This store fried chicken is rarely fresh compared to the other stores. Today at 5 pm, didn’t have enough chicken for an 8 piece abs he said they weren’t making anymore for the night. So I had to drive to Safeway on Beretania, where chicken is usually hot & fresh.
