Nicki Sutherland 4 months agoI recently experienced an issue at this Kroger location regarding the new receipt-checking policy at the exit. While I understand loss prevention efforts, Kroger is not a membership store like Costco, and customers do not agree to mandatory receipt checks as a condition of entry. Kroger has extensive camera systems throughout the store. If those cameras are in place, what is the purpose of having them if they are not being utilized to monitor the shopping experience and distinguish paying customers from actual theft? It appears the company does not pay employees enough to adequately staff and monitor security footage, and instead shifts that burden onto customers at the door. There was a small line for the African-American security Officer to use his highlighter to check receipts I declined because my Uber was soon to leave me. When I refused, the security officer turned around and looked at me and said “what did you say” as if I broke the law for refusing the security officer from checking my receipt? I told him to please follow my every move on the camera footage for a proper check. Once I have paid for my items, they are my personal property under Georgia law. I politely declined a receipt check because I was in a rush. A refusal alone does not create probable cause for detention. Customers should not feel detained or treated with suspicion after completing a lawful purchase. I spend hundreds of dollars a week at Kroger. This policy, as currently enforced, feels unnecessary and intrusive. I have never stolen a day in my life and maybe I shouldn’t be taking these changes personal, I guess I’m just tired of Store’s taking advantage of customer loyal return. I’ll be more than happy to show my receipts when Kroger can provide strawberries that are rotten at the bottom Lettuce that’s not wilted a day later and provide their customers with some sort of satisfaction guarantee on customer service.
Shaheen Hadadzadeh 5 months agoI really want to know where you get the gall to implement a receipt checking policy at what is possibly the slowest and least well staffed Krogers I've ever been to. I stop here multiple times a week because it is conveniently on my way home - never again. I'll take my business to Publix which won't treat me like a criminal by default.
First Last 2 months agoUPDATE: I can attest that the Publix down the road is a much better experience. The store is clean, well lit, well appointed and there is no one checking your receipt when you leave to make you feel like a criminal. If you want to feel like a criminal every time you go shopping, then this is the place for you. If you enjoy having armed security guards, check your receipts every time you leave the store, this is your dream location. I don't and therefore no longer shop at any Kroger's.
Contemporary Home 3 months agoI find myself diverting from Kroger more often than not. I agree with everyone here that the receipt checking on the way out is nonsense. That aside, the CS people are always in a foul mood to the point I no longer want to deal with shopping here. Case in point: I picked up some scratch tickets late one evening but one ticket jammed so I was out 30$. Four employees were corralled at self-checkout but none wanted to help out. They said to come back in the morning. I questioned how can I prove it once I leave the store. I had taken a photo of the "Error" on the vending machine as a last resort but no Kroger person was willing to witness and corroborate the issue. Fast forward to the next morning and sure enough the ordeal took nearly an hour to resolve. The CS person left me waiting until they performed their task, then got on the phone for instructions from a "manager" (no manager in the store?!), doubting and not listening to any of my circumstances, and then proceeding to tell me that the night staff should have done more information gathering. Exactly my point. Get your staff to know the protocols and do not expect the client to do the legwork. If your night staff cannot handle the lottery vending machine turn it off. Do better.
Kels S 4 months agoThe security at this location has changed for the worse. The new team stands at the checkout watching customers’ every move as if everyone is a criminal. It creates a very uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment. Instead of standing and staring at self-checkout like it’s airport security, they should be walking the floor and engaging in a more professional, customer-friendly way. Simply hovering over customers isn’t an effective solution to prevent theft, and it certainly doesn’t improve the shopping experience. I’m not sure why the previous security team was replaced, but this new crew has significantly lowered the overall atmosphere of the store. I strongly encourage management to reconsider their approach to security and customer service.
