It’s a Safeway. They have almost everything you could possibly need including Starbucks! They are open 6 am to midnight every day. The staff there is okay overall. There are some really fantastic employees that go out of their way to help you with a smile on their face the whole time and then there are those that make you wonder how they ever got a customer facing job. The shelves are almost always properly stocked and it’s rare you will find them completely out of something. The store is relatively clean and well organized. Prices are inline with other big box grocery stores and they constantly have deals via coupons and their app. Crime is a problem at this store as are the homeless beggars at the front door. The store has tried implementing theft deterrent systems by installing gates and hiring security. However security mostly stands around staring at their phones and the security gates appear to be a minor obstacle for the kids walking out with whatever they want. Again, the store is trying to minimize theft, but it appears to be a losing battle at this point.

On Friday, January 23, I stopped by the Safeway located at 3830 Georgia Avenue NW in the early afternoon to pick up fewer than 20 items. To be honest, my nerves were a bit frazzled that morning. My day had started around 5:00 AM, and with news predicting a major winter snowstorm later that evening, my mood was heading in the wrong direction. Even though I often choose self-checkout for speed, I decided to go through the regular checkout line and I’m so glad I did, because I had the pleasure of meeting Kiara. From the moment I approached her register, Kiara provided exceptional customer service. Kiara was: Efficient Focused Friendly Cheerful Calm …and welcoming from start to finish. What could have been just another stressful errand became a genuinely fast, fun, and pleasant experience because of her energy and professionalism. Before leaving, I felt compelled to share my appreciation with two managers because Kiara truly made an impact. Kiara was my calm before the storm. Thank you, Kiara, for showing how much kindness and excellent service can brighten someone’s day.

It used to be ok. But now they don't even have shopping carts, and when you ask they just shrug and say " there aren't any". That on top of extra security making you feel nervous , I just can't shop here anymore. Even the giant down by 14th is friendlier.

Fun fact: Safeway workers unlike Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s are union represented, getting better, wages, benefits, and work life balance. Support high road employers like safely by shopping there.

PLEASE GET MORE GROCERY CARTS!!!! Every single time I come, there is a lack of carts available. Today, 3 of the carts were locked and there was not a single other cart available. At 4:30pm on a Tuesday. Every. Single. Time.
