I rarely review grocery stores and was hesitant to visit this one while staying at a hotel in the area because of the bad reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The store was clean, well-stocked, secure, and the area outside felt safe and welcoming. I was able to find all the specific protein shakes and bars I needed at reasonable prices compared to home in Florida. I would definitely return and recommend it for local shopping.

Have gotten used to it. Your average supermarket. Not much to write home about. Sometimes there are some good deals if you are subscribed to their digital newsletter.

I started ordering online from this store since the wait times at the checkouts have gotten out of hand... I placed an order recently which didn't arrive. The courier accepted the order, took the tip, but then didn't deliver any of the groceries. I got a notification the order had been delivered but nothing. I have been told twice by customer support that I would receive a refund for this but each time the refund gets blocked by a different department. I will now have to go try to get my bank to recovery the money back as I spent a lot of money on that order. I would not recommend this store at all. EDIT: the reply to my review said I should contact customer support who said the store manager had denied the refund request. I also received an email from the escalations team saying that the refund request was denied and when I asked why I was ignored. Sent two follow up emails and both have been ignored.

Update 2: Several months later, the problem is only worse - lines are OUTRAGEOUS. Honestly this is the WORST grocery store and yet it is the only one walkable to my home, so I’m often stuck. Update: Over a month later and these lines are still an absolute joke. Again, Vons has closed the self checkout lines complaining that the new city ordinance prevents them from operating, but they are the only grocery store in Long Beach I’ve been to that can’t figure out how to operate under the new law. Their competitor Ralphs/Kroger seem to have had it figured out from Day 1. This is not a city ordinance issue like they claim - they are not staffing their store enough and the lines love outrageously slow! This place is so understaffed it’s a joke. They complain that the new Long Beach city order makes it impossible for them to staff their self checkout lane (meanwhile other stores have figured out how to manage that) and yet they also refuse to open more than 1-2 cashiers at a time, so lines are outrageous. Also the homeless situation here is abysmal. Honestly this place needs serious help…

I could walk one block to get my groceries here but I choose to drive all the way across town to avoid it. The staff are all fantastic. But every time I walk in the lines are into the aisles so I immediately turn around and walk out. Morning, nighttime, middle of the day. Doesn't matter. They closed the self checkout and are pinching pennies on the checkout lanes. I'll come back when the self checkout is reopened and you staff the check out lanes appropriately.
